Black Adam #2 (Men's)
Black Adam is a powerful antihero and sometimes villain in the DC Comics universe, closely associated with Shazam. His real name is Teth-Adam, and he was originally an ancient Egyptian (or Kahndaqian, depending on the version) warrior chosen by the wizard Shazam to be his champion. However, unlike Billy Batson, Black Adam used his powers for vengeance and domination, leading to his banishment.
Black Adam possesses the same magical powers as Shazam, derived from a different set of gods—typically: Shu (stamina), Heru (swiftness), Amon (strength), Zehuti (wisdom), Aton (power), and Mehen (courage)—granting him immense strength, speed, flight, and magical abilities. Unlike Shazam, Black Adam is often more ruthless, guided by a strict sense of justice that can border on authoritarianism.
While traditionally portrayed as a villain, more modern interpretations depict him as a complex antihero—a protector of his homeland, Kahndaq, willing to use any means necessary to defend it. Black Adam starred in his own live-action film, Black Adam (2022), where he was portrayed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
