DMX (born Earl Simmons) was an American rapper, songwriter, and actor known for his raw, aggressive delivery and deeply personal lyrics. Rising to fame in the late 1990s, he became one of hip-hop’s biggest stars with hits like Ruff Ryders’ Anthem, Party Up (Up in Here), and X Gon’ Give It to Ya. His debut album, It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot (1998), was a critical and commercial success, leading to a series of multi-platinum albums. DMX was also an actor, appearing in films such as Belly and Cradle 2 the Grave. Despite struggles with legal and personal issues, he remained a beloved figure in hip-hop until his passing in 2021.
